The Case for Need for Speed: Carbon Remastered

Need for Speed: Underground and its sequel brought the thrill of arcade-like street racing to an open world setting back in 2004, capitalizing on the late 90s/early 2000s tuner culture and bringing Fast & Furious fans into the gaming sphere. With Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 recently receiving a remastered treatment, it's time to consider doing the same for these two racing titles.

While Need for Speed was never known for taking a realistic approach to driving, the franchise deserves credit for trying and succeeding surprisingly well with its more realistic driving experience in Carbon. This game stands out from its predecessors due to its more realistic handling and performance of cars compared to the arcade-like gameplay of previous games.

In Carbon, players built up points and cash by racing against various opponents, upgrading their cars, and eventually taking on the Kings in showdown events for superiority. The story is different from the previous Need for Speed games, with a new protagonist named Ryan Cooper who's an up-and-coming racer competing against the best 'Kings' in the ProStreet competition.

Need for Speed: Carbon Remastered would be a welcome addition to the series, allowing fans to relive the thrill of the game with updated graphics and gameplay. The franchise took a break from its street-racing car culture themes with Need for Speed: ProStreet, which eschewed legal street racing competition like Forza. A remaster of Carbon could bring back the excitement and nostalgia of the series' earlier days while offering improved gameplay and visuals.
